As the warm sunny days start rolling in and we enter the summer months, our mind just starts wandering to the beach. And Rijeka is teeming with them. Due to the mild climate, the bathing season lasts from spring to late autumn. Where to go? Anywhere from west to east and vice versa, because in Rijeka, everyone can find their place in the sun. First, we should mention the Ploče and Kostanj beaches, which have been awarded the Blue Flag, a symbol of development and clean sea. Ploče beach is the most recent and developed beach in Rijeka. It was formed beneath the Kantrida swimming pool complex and was a welcome addition to the city as a top-tier summer gathering place, which is open day and night and offers a variety of amenities to visitors, along with tidiness and safety. Kostanj beach is the first beach in Croatia that is fully accessible for disabled people. It is equipped with a lift that leads into the sea and is located in western Rijeka, halfway between Bivio and Preluk cove.
This and other beaches in Rijeka can be reached by city buses, while visitors arriving by car will have a private parking space at their disposal. Pets are allowed at the dog-friendly Kantrida and Brajdica beaches, where you can frolic in the water with your scruffy companions without interruption. All that’s left for us to do is invite you to see everything for yourselves. While staying in Rijeka, you can visit a different beach and experience something new every day.
The summer months are also packed with events, as the squares, streets and terraces in Rijeka transform into stages for a wide range of events. Popular locations in the city, as well as places that even the locals would be hard-pressed to imagine as stages, open up for the public during the summer.
